Baita Segantini
Baita Segantini pays homage to the memory of the Trentino painter Giovanni Segantini and serves as a living testament to the love for the mountains that inspired the mountaineer Alfredo Paluselli, who built it in 1936 to live there in solitude. The Baita offers an idyllic view: on one side, the rugged charm of the Lagorai range with Colbricon Peak; on the other, the imposing spectacle of the Pale di San Martino, a natural sequence that fascinates and astonishes in every season, highlighted by the iconic “Matterhorn of the Dolomites,” the renowned Cimon della Pala. The solitary
Monte Castellazzo (2,333 meters) stands in its grandeur, inviting hikers to reach its summit by following the famous Trekking of the Cristo Pensante.
Baita Segantini, with its welcoming structure steeped in history, is set in an environment where alpine biodiversity shines in all its splendor, protected by the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park. The slopes around the Baita are home to a variety of mountain flowers, such as gentians, Venus slippers, red lilies, martagon lilies, black vanilla orchids, and buttercups, which give the landscape an almost enchanted appearance. Hidden from view, deer and roe deer are the quiet inhabitants of this magical place.
Attentive and lucky hikers may catch a glimpse of these splendid animals grazing on the mountain grass near the Baita during the peaceful moments of dawn and dusk.
This slice of paradise is an unmissable destination that attracts visitors from all over the world.
